Rational economics has been used to analyses open source development but he want to move beyond the lens of rational economics

he uses the theory of “participation in social movements” Klandermans (1997) and Maslow hierarchy of needs:
collective motives
identification motives
cost benefit motives
norm orientated motives

His argument that there doesn’t need to be a tradeoff between quality and quantity they can both go up.
